Class Structure

We have five classes for our seven year groups, Reception through to Year Six, therefore the School has mixed age classes.

The class structure changes each year according to the size of each year group. We use several factors to decide where each child is placed.

These include:

  • The size of each year group and the capacity of the class (30 maximum)
  • The child’s date of birth
  • The child’s maturity
  • Social groupings
  • Progress and ability.

In 2018-19 the class structure is:

Eagle Class - Y6 taught by Mrs Sarah Cubitt (4 days) and Mr Andrew Goff

Kestrel Class - Y4/Y5 taught by Mrs Davis (4 days) and Mr Goff

Falcon Class - Y3/Y4 taught by Mrs Newman (4 days) and Mrs Beazley

Each KS2 class has a TA in the mornings.

We have a unique structure in KS1 which enables small single year groups in the morning promoting enhancing wellbeing of the children and excellent academic progress.  There are still two KS1 classes; but in the morning the children are taught in single year groups as follows:

In the mornings:

Barn Owls - Reception taught by Mrs Meena Purba and Mrs Blake -Hatton.

Tawny Owls - Y1 taught by Mrs Hayford

Snowy Owls - Y2 taught by Ms Caroline Smethurst.

In the afternoons:

Owl Class 1 - Reception/Y1 taught by Mrs Blake Hatton (Mon-Weds)

                   Mrs Purba (Thurs-Fri)

Owl Class 2 - Y1/Y2 taught by Ms Caroline Smethurst.

The KS1 classes have a full time Teaching assistant.
