We aim to give the children a range of opportunities to enjoy music and to develop their musical skills and understanding. Class music sessions include singing, playing, listening and composing, either as a whole class or in small groups. The children will have opportunities to build combinations of melody and rhythm, to perform their own compositions and to listen and respond to the work of their peers and to that of published composers from the earliest written music to the present day. They will also be encouraged to discover and appreciate music from a wide variety of styles and cultures.
Through the West Sussex music service we provide instrumental lessons to KS2 one class per term and parents are invited to a concert to see what the children have been learning.
In addition other instrumental lessons are provided by visiting teachers from the West Sussex Music Service in violin, cello and singing. ACEG also provide guitar and ukulele lessons. These take place during the school day in small groups.
Whenever possible we participate in the local festivals within our area giving the children the opportunity to enjoy music making with children from other schools. Children in KS2 take part in a musical production in the summer term.
